RE: Surfing this weekend (26/27)
I surf in murky water about 50-75 days a year. I don't surf at dusk, or before full dawn. I don't surf when I see bait fish jumping, or the birds circling. I avoid murky river inlets, but do surf near other fast moving inlets.
I have been surfing since 1966, and I have yet to become a statistic. I also was an avid shark fisherman for years. I learned a lot about sharks (and I still read about them and study them). I gave up shark fishing a long time ago, although I caught one last week (inadvertently - a nice 4 footer that years back I would have kept.). I returned him to the water. Statistically, you are much more likely to get struck by lightning on the same day you win the lottery. It is more dangerous to drive to the beach that it is to swim with the sharks. Read the link, it will give you some good statistical information:http://www.flmnh.ufl.edu/fish/sharks/isa… Rememebr there are MIllions of swimmers in the water every year, and the statistics show only a small amount ever get eaten. By the way, if you live in Florida, I would be a lot more worried about gators if I were you. By John F . Real time chicago Real Estate listings! |
